TIMO HENSEN
STRANGE UNIVERSE, HUMAN STORIES
I’m a screenwriter and script consultant from the Netherlands.
I graduated from the Utrecht School of Arts (HKU, 2013) as a screenwriter, and honed my craft at the renowned production company Eyeworks. During my internship, I was involved in the development phase of major Dutch box office hits such as New Kids Nitro, The Marathon and Nova Zembla.
As a writer, I have received international recognition for my work. I have won the International Bang Award for animation and received a Naftad’or for my short film Beyond the start.
In addition to my writing credits, I am the founder of Het Beste Scenario (The best screenplay), a consultancy firm where I utilize my expertise to advise production companies and filmmakers on script development and story architecture.

LOGLINE:
Gerrie, Richard, Rikkert, Robbie and Barry from Maaskantje are in a big fight with the village of Schijndel. When a zombie kills someone from Brabant, things get out of hand.
TIMO:
New Kids was already in post-production when I started my internship at Eyeworks. Still, I felt very involved with this production. I spent a lot of time in the audio studios where the dubbing took place, drove digital copies of the film around to places like streamer Videoland, and even got to voice, scream, and grunt for some football hooligans, villagers, and zombies myself.
The premiere on December 8, 2011, in Eindhoven was a wonderfully crazy event.

NOVA ZEMBLA

- UNCREDITED
LOGLINE:
A Dutch exploration team sets sail to find the North East passage to the Indies. The weather had other ideas for them.
TIMO:
I was driving through Amsterdam with my internship supervisor on our way to... no idea, actually. I did know we were in a rush. When we arrived at a cinema and went inside, it turned out I had ended up in a test screening of the new Eyeworks film Nova Zembla.
After the film, we went into a meeting where it turned out I was the only one who hadn't seen a single version of the movie yet. Because of this, Reinout Oerlemans directed all his questions about what worked story-wise and what didn't entirely at me.
It was wonderful to experience the whole process from rough cut to royal premiere.
THE MARATHON

After finding out that they have a tax debt of 40,000 euros, four very out-of-shape men working at a car shop start to train for a marathon in which they can win the money to pay the debt.
TIMO:
The extensive script meetings with Martin van Waardenberg and producers Judith Hees and Maarten Swart were one big masterclass in screenwriting. I kept my ears open and soaked up all the information about story structure, character arcs, and acts.
During that period, I was already in love with the craft of screenwriting, but these meetings anchored that love deep within me.
